About Piano Lessons
Piano and Theory Lessons
Agnes’ achievements in piano and theory, alongside her many years of experience, allow her to customize her lessons to each individual student’s learning patterns - starting with the basics, and building their skills from there. To make lessons approachable and fun, Agnes will rearrange familiar songs to meet the needs of early-level students.
Agnes teaches a wide range of students weekly - from first-year beginner students and transfer students, to long-time students she has taught for many years. She welcomes the opportunity to work with new students, whether they’re preparing for a formal exam with The Royal Conservatory of Music, or to learn for pure enjoyment.
Her Teaching Philosophy
Agnes’ teaching style pays tribute to each of her learning experiences with her own music teachers, coupled with her unique personality and insights.
What she finds most rewarding is working with a student over many years and seeing their skills develop from beginner to advanced levels of music. She equally enjoys inspiring students to share their knowledge of music with others.
What to expect during a Piano Lesson

Agnes strives for each student to get the most out of their lessons and accepts students ages five and up, ranging from beginner to advanced; to prepare for all levels of the Royal Conservatory of Music exams (from Level 1 through to A.R.C.T. in piano and theory); or to learn for pure enjoyment.
-
For beginners to Level 6: lessons are private; 30 minutes, weekly.
For Level 6 and up where more theory instruction is needed, lessons are 45 minutes; weekly
Lessons are offered from September through to the end of May, with a year-end recital in early June.

Students should have a piano or electric keyboard to use at home.
While Agnes provides the foundational knowledge and instruction in her piano lessons, skill development goes beyond the lesson, and thus, practice is key! It’s recommended that students practice several times a week between lessons in order to develop their knowledge, muscle memory and skill.
For those that start with an electronic keyboard, and continue taking lessons for several years, Agnes recommends eventually switching to an acoustic piano. This allows the student to learn the finer details of tone quality, and to gain a better sense of the piano’s response to the weight and control through their playing.
-
Students are invited to participate in a year-end recital where they can perform a piece of their choice that will showcase their accomplishments in piano to an audience of family and friends.
This is a great opportunity for students to perfect a piece of music, perform in a public setting, and for beginner students to be inspired by the advanced students.
